Charity Navigator has posted across social media this morning a 2007 article that is deserving of a quick read. It is especially good for those who interact with nonprofit organizations, whether via volunteering, financial donations, or board/committee service.

The five myths the article dispels are below. I will leave you to follow the links to read their explanations.  Just know it is good information and are still true throughout the nonprofit sector.

Myth 1:  Charity executives are overpaid

Myth 2:  After a natural disaster, charities need old clothes

Myth 3:  You can judge a local charity based on a national name

Myth 4:  Excellent charities spend 100% of their budgets are program services

Myth 5:  A good way to support charity is to participate in a special event or buy a special product.
